Complete equipment
Rotary dryers, coolers, granulators, coaters and calciners; mills; screens; fluidised beds; conveyors and materials handling equipment. Each with its drive and riding gear frame, inlet and outlet boxes and gas take-offs.
Services
Equipment built under COMSPAIN control, with certified materials and full traceability — from the workshop to your plant, anywhere in the world.
Our approach
A good design is only worth as much as the way it is built.
That is why manufacturing at COMSPAIN is not something we subcontract and forget: our engineers specify the materials, write the inspection and test plan, control the plate work, the welding and the machining, and sign off every machine before it is despatched.
We don’t always manufacture in the same place, and that is an advantage for the customer, not a weakness. We hold partnership agreements with heavy plate-work and machining workshops in several countries, and for each project we choose — or set up — the most suitable workshop, often close to the customer’s own plant. That cuts lead times and transport costs on large equipment, and makes it easy for the customer to visit the workshop without travelling to Spain.
What does not change from one workshop to the next is the control: our own quality team travels to site or supervises remotely, applying the same material, welding and testing requirements in Morocco, Egypt or Indonesia as in a workshop in Spain. European quality, wherever it is built.
The result is the same one we have been delivering since 1976: equipment that reaches the plant complete, tested and documented, and that is still turning decades later.
Scope
Rotary dryers, coolers, granulators, coaters and calciners; mills; screens; fluidised beds; conveyors and materials handling equipment. Each with its drive and riding gear frame, inlet and outlet boxes and gas take-offs.
Drum shells, riding rings, girth gears and pinions, trunnion and thrust rollers, complete drive trains with an emergency auxiliary drive. Large parts to demanding tolerances, manufactured under metallurgical control.
The main machine together with everything it needs to run: feeding and dosing, dust collection (cyclones, filters), fans, combustion chambers, structural steelwork and platforms. One supplier, one line of responsibility.
Replacement of wear parts and of equipment at the end of its service life, including machines we did not build ourselves.
Manufacturing model
Shipping a 400-tonne drum from Spain is not the same as moving it from a workshop 20 km from site. So we adapt where we manufacture to each project, without compromising on how we manufacture it.
We hold long-standing agreements with heavy plate-work and machining workshops in several countries, all proven on earlier projects. We don’t improvise a supplier for each quotation.
Where the project justifies it, we manufacture in a workshop near the final installation. Less special transport, less risk in transit, and the customer can visit the workshop without travelling to Spain.
Whichever workshop is used, the inspection plan, the specified materials and the quality team are COMSPAIN’s. Our own inspectors supervise manufacture, in Spain or abroad.
Quality
Wherever we manufacture, every machine goes through the same inspection plan defined in engineering. Nothing moves on to the next stage without our quality team’s sign-off.
Steel quality certificates (EN 10204 3.1), verification of composition, thickness and delivery condition.
Approved welding procedures and qualified welders. Geometrical control of the drum shells: roundness, alignment and concentricity.
Riding rings, girth gears, pinions and rollers machined to gear-tooth and riding tolerances. Dimensional and hardness checks.
Non-destructive testing on welds and forgings [CONFIRMAR], trial assembly in the workshop and a rotation test where the size allows. Inspection open to the customer or to a third party.
Protection and packing for sea freight, part marking, loading plan and final dossier: as-built drawings, certificates, and erection, operating and maintenance manuals.
Specifications
The drive train and the riding gear are the heart of a rotary drum. These are the specifications we build them to, in any of our workshops.
| Component | Material and construction | Hardness | Manufacturing limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Riding rings | One-piece forged tyre in 34CrMo4 (35 CD4) steel. Floating mounting on pads fixed to the drum shell with shims, allowing micro-slip and preventing localised wear. | ~230 HB | Ø up to 6,000 mm · width up to 600 mm · up to 40 t |
| Trunnion and thrust rollers | Forged or rolled, in 42CrMo4 (42 CD4) steel. Shrink-fitted onto an F-125 shaft mounted on spherical roller bearings. Tapered thrust roller design, lubricated by graphite blocks. | ~260 HB | — |
| Girth gears | 34CrMo4 (35 CD4) steel in two halves, with the gear teeth machined under control. | ~250 HB | Pitch Ø up to 8,000 mm · module up to 50 mm · width up to 500 mm |
| Pinions | Forged, in 42CrMo4 (42 CD4) steel, typically 23 teeth. | ~280 HB | — |
| Drum shells | Carbon steel, stainless steel, corten or refractory-lined, depending on the product and the temperature. | — | Ø up to 5.4 m · length up to 50 m · thickness up to 60 mm · up to 400 t |
| Drive train | Pinion and girth gear drive with a fluid coupling for soft starting. Emergency auxiliary barring drive with gearbox, freewheel and electromagnetic brake. Automatic girth gear and pinion lubrication by sprayed grease, on programmable cycles. | — | Power up to 1,000 kW |

countries with equipment in operation
Shipping a 400-tonne drum is not like sending a parcel. We plan the split into sections, the special transport and the port logistics from the design stage, so the equipment reaches the plant in the condition and on the date agreed. And once it arrives, our team can supervise erection and commissioning.
Quality
We manufacture to the standards each market and each project requires, with documentation that follows the equipment through to commissioning.
COMSPAIN is certified to ISO 9001:2015 by Bureau Veritas. Our quality control is independent of technical management and reports directly to general management: whoever inspects is never whoever builds, whichever workshop is involved. [CONFIRMAR]
