Corrosion
Many fertilizers attack carbon steel. We select the material — stainless steel, linings, special steels — from the actual product, not from a default.
Industries
Equipment for the thermal processing and granulation of fertilizers, in plants worldwide since 1976.
Where we come from
Fertilizers are our core industry: most of our equipment — rotary dryers, coolers, granulators and coaters — came out of solving processes in this sector. We work with phosphates (DAP, MAP), nitrogen products (urea, ammonium nitrate) and NPK compounds, and we understand what each one demands: corrosion, temperature, and how hygroscopic the product is.
The process
A granulated fertilizer goes through several thermal stages before it reaches the warehouse. COMSPAIN supplies the ones that call for thermal or mechanical processing of the solid.
Forming the granule from the reacted product.
A rotary dryer removes the moisture from the newly formed granule.
A cooling drum stabilises the granule before storage or coating.
A coating drum applies an anti-caking or anti-corrosion agent to preserve the product.

Industry challenges
Many fertilizers attack carbon steel. We select the material — stainless steel, linings, special steels — from the actual product, not from a default.
Some products (nitrates) need strict temperature control because of the risk of decomposition. The equipment design accounts for those conditions from the outset.
Products that draw moisture from the air need drying and cooling to be properly sized, to prevent caking in the warehouse.
An unplanned stoppage on the granulation line is expensive. That is why our Technical assistance and Spare parts services are built around keeping downtime short in this industry in particular.
